About the artist

Duncan Scott Sheik (November 18, 1969 - September 17, 2026) was an American singer-songwriter. He was best known for his 1996 hit single "Barely Breathing", and for composing the music for the musical "Spring Awakening", for which he won the two Tony Awards in 2007. Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Sheik's upbringing was split between his parents' home in South Carolina and that of his grandparents in New Jersey. His grandmother, a piano graduate of The Juilliard School, taught him to play the piano and encouraged his musical development.
